VALDOSTA – City of Valdosta Assistant City Manager Catherine Ammons has just announced her resignation as city employee, after the City Manager abruptly resigned under rumors and speculations.
Yesterday, City Manager Richard Hardy, pressured by City Council questioning his job, took the decision to leave the city post.
Both City Manager Richard Hardy and Assistant City Manager Catherine Ammons have resigned without giving the residents of the city any reason for conflict with the Valdosta City Administration.
Previously, The Valdosta City Council had called a special meeting to consider a separation agreement for the city manager, reviewing Hardy’s contract, “a closed door”. Nobody has said anything about the conclusion of the meeting.
Suddenly, Assistant City Manager Catherine Ammons, who had been relocated to degrade his position as Georgia Municipal Association’s Municipal Workforce Development Advisory Council resigned too.
Speaking of behalf of the City Council, according a local media, Mayor James Scott Matheson said the following:
“On behalf of the City Council, I extend our sincere appreciation to Richard and Catherine for their service and commitment to Valdosta,” Matheson said. “They have served with dedication and integrity, and their leadership has strengthened the city in countless ways. As we move forward, we remain focused on maintaining stability, and continued excellence in serving our citizens.” In other words, nothing happened. Everything is Okay. Everybody happy!
